Snowflakes - Monday 8th October

Good Morning Friends,

First of all, thank you to those of you who shared with me your ways into card making following my blog post on Saturday. I loved reading all your comments and different 'paths'. Yes, my Dad was just wonderful, so was Mum, but we were fortunate to have had her with us so much longer, as we only lost her a few years ago, whereas Dad passed away  24 years ago and I still had so much to learn from him. Thank you so much again to those of you who commented.

I had a busy day crafting yesterday, finally a full day just to make cards! We are normally out visiting Tom's parents on a Sunday, but they were going out somewhere, so as it was an unexpectedly sunny day (not as forecast!), Tom put the garden to bed with the help of the hens and I got on with some commissions. I may not be about much posting this week, I'll see how it goes, but the commissions I made, I can't post just yet and I haven't had too much time for other creations, especially as we have another workshop this week! Gosh, if only I could do this full time, I certainly have enough work to keep me going! Well, we'll see what next year brings :)

Over the next few weeks we have 2 works shops and I have a card-making demo day and a craft fair, busy, busy, busy!  I will be stopping by all your blogs to say hello and hopefully, by the end of the week I'll be posting again!

However, I did make  some time for myself yesterday and made this week's contribution to Sunday Stampers - I am usually so last minute, that I've even surprised myself!

This week's topic is 'Snowflakes' and here is my card...

I started with a 6x6 card blank and some linen card, on which I stamped the snowflakes from the Creative Expressions "Snowflakes and Sprigs" stamp set, using a clear embossing ink, which I covered Cosmic Shimmer Aurora Sparkle embossing powder and heat embossed. Next I coloured the card with a mix of Faded Denim and Broken China embossing inks. After I had covered the whole card, I rubbed it in with one of those duster sheets you use on the floor and then set it with a quick blast of an iron.

The snowflake is Spellbinders Create-a-flake covered in clear micro glass beads, set over some blue vintage ribbon tied in a double bow.

Materials used:

6x6 card blank

6x6 linen card

Snowflakes and Sprigs stamp set (Creative Expressions)

Cosmic Shimmer Aurora Crystal Sparkle embossing powder

Faded Denim and Broken China distress ink

Spellbinders Create-a-Flake dies

Clear Micro Glass beads and double side adhesive paper

LIlli of the Valley sentiment and Spellbinders Classic Heart Circle (used behind sentiment)

Vintage ribbon, pearl gems

Thanks for stopping by today and please leave a comment, I read and appreciate them all.

  6. Hi Carole,
What a cheery and chilly card at the same time. Love it!
Full of arty creation and fabulousness. (oooo I have used that word twice today, I will have to be careful or I will start repeating myself.....) (oooo I have used that ..... sorry, in a silly mood today..lol!!)
Anyway, another lovely card. Sorry I missed your post Saturday but I loved your story so much I wanted to give you this gist of my entry to crafting/cardmaking, hope that's ok?
My dad took us on many trips, all over the country to the far reaches of Scotland too and we often visited galleries and museums. To top this off my dad was a dab hand with pencils and loved to draw (my son still has a wonderful picture of a Spitfire plane from WW2 that my father gave to him before he died). I was never good at that side of Art but I love to scrap and doodle. However my first love was baking and knitting. Mum inspired me and taught me all my basic skills except for crocheting which my Auntie (dads sister) taught me. Sewing was my biggest love from around 12-14, even obtaining a Needlework O'Level. It was only later in life after my car accident and spinal surgery that I took to cardmaking. I found that I could craft this on my lapdesk at first and then later on the kitchen table while I was in recovery. Of course, like most cardmakers, it took hold and I was addicted to cardmaking. It ended up taking over my home with a small craftroom at first to a whole bedroom now (and I could still grow if I had my way, but I am being good I promise... LOL!! The story continues now with mainly cardmaking, crochet and a little sewing only now. I have the skills for many crafts but my main love of baking and sewing have to be rare now as I cannot cope with the periods of long standing or long sitting.
So for me, like yourself, I was infused with the love of Art by a dear father; but craft, as such, was down to my mother, but unfortunately she doesn't craft any longer, other than baking the odd cake once in a while.
Hope you have a great day.
    Hugs Linda xx

  7. Hi Carole, another lovely Christmas creation from you. Love the icy blue colour with the snowflakes and the pearls add that special touch.
Your story of your Dad shows what a wonderful man he was, sadly we lost my Dad when I was fifteen so I feel I was cheated out of spending time with the best Dad anyone could have had and I think he and Mum did a pretty good job where my sister and I are concerned. Thankfully we were blessed with having Mum for many more years, she was 89 when she passed away and she was so talented in knitting, sewing, embroidery, gardening, oil painting and egg decorating. My sister says I have Mums talent but I only took to knitting and non of the others it was friends who inspired me to take up cake decorating and my current love card making. I do like to dabble in crochet and parchment craft and there are so many other crafts I want to try, just which I had started earlier in my life but I am thoroughly enjoying my crafts now.
Have a lovely Monday, love Christine H xx
